Are Motorized Blinds a Luxury or a Tool That Enhances Quality of Life?

Almost every home has windows adorned with curtains – whether textile curtains, roller blinds, pleated blinds, or some other smart solution. But homes are changing: ceilings are rising, glass surfaces are expanding. With that, the need for more convenient and smarter curtain solutions is also growing.

Motorized window treatments are becoming increasingly popular in both residential and commercial spaces. Yes, it’s convenient to control blinds via a mobile app or integrate them with home automation systems—like temperature sensors that help reduce heating and cooling costs. But behind this convenience, there can be something far more meaningful: for some, motorized blinds are not just a luxury—they’re essential.

Meet Dave

Dave is a young man who has been using a wheelchair for the past three years. He lives independently, supported by kind assistants in his daily routines. Dave is positive and proactive—you’ll often find him working on his tablet during weekdays, because he doesn’t want to spend his days just sitting at home. Since most of his time is spent indoors, it’s especially important that his home is comfortable and safe.

One major issue was excessive sunlight. Dave’s living room has large windows that let in a lot of heat and light during summer, making the space uncomfortable. Normally, this would be solved with suitable window coverings, but for Dave, manually adjusting blinds wasn’t an option. So he began searching for a motorized solution.

Now that the roller blinds are installed, they’re also beneficial in winter—his old windows don’t retain heat well, and cold air can seep in through the glass. The blinds help reduce this, making Dave’s home not only more comfortable but also warmer and more energy-efficient.

Avaekspertid Took Notice

We were genuinely happy to receive Dave’s message in our inbox. His story had previously been featured on the TV show Südamesoov, so we recognized him immediately. The decision was easy—we gifted Dave the motorized roller blinds he needed.

We manufactured and installed blinds in Dave’s home that can be controlled via remote and mobile app. We used Eve MotionBlinds motors and added a manual wand function—a gentle pull moves the blind. This also allows guests to operate the blinds easily.

More Than Just Convenience

Dave’s story clearly shows that some products are not just about luxury—they can be tools that significantly improve quality of life.

At Avaekspertid, we believe there are many wonderful people in Estonia whose needs may go unnoticed. Support doesn’t have to be reserved for the holiday season—every month and every day is an opportunity to do good. As individuals, we may not always be able to make a big impact, but companies often have more resources. Notice your customers—listen and truly see who they are. What may be a small step for you could mean a life-changing difference for someone else.
